The Musee Mechanique at Pier 45 isherman's Wharf

Dave and I spent yesterday afternoon, me with camera in hand, walking around the Fisherman’s Wharf area. We began at Fort Mason and the Aquatic Park and by nightfall had ended up at Pier 39. In between, we spent over an hour inside Pier 45 (free admission) viewing and listening to the amazing antique mechanical coin-operated pieces that make up the famous Zelinsky collection, Musee Mecanique.

The Musee Mecanique on Pier 45 is one of the world’s largest privately owned collections of mechanically operated musical instruments and antique arcade machines. This amazing collection of more than 300 items is owned by Edward Galland Zelinsky, a fifth generation San Franciscan. For anyone who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, visiting this museum is a chance to remember Playland at the Beach, the Sutro Baths, and the Cliff House. For years this collection was housed in the lower level of the Cliff House. Due to the renovation of the Cliff House in 2002, the collection was moved to its new location at Pier 45 at Fisherman’s Wharf.

He wrote:

Hello Mr. Henggeler,
Sounds like you had a good time visiting the Musee Mecanique.
Just thought I should let you know of our NEW web site. museemecaniquesf.com
The .org site is not mine or accurate and I have no control over it.
Also. My Father passed away several years ago.
Best wishes, Dan Zelinsky.
