RON HENGGELER

Point Reyes, Drakes Bay, and Chimney Rock

On Monday, Dave and I drove up to Point Reyes National Seashore. I have a photographer friend who's visiting from Baltimore, and we wanted to show her the splendors of the region. We had hoped to visit the Point Reyes Lighthouse at around noon, but the 300 step stairway was unexpectedly closed due to 65 mph winds. Since we were unable to tour the lighthouse, we drove over to the western-most point of the Point Reyes and hiked a mile to Chimney Rock. The summit of Chimney Rock (with yes, 65 mph winds) has breathtaking coastal views. The summit’s jaw-dropping view looking east along the Point’s mountainous ridgeline is like stepping back into the very first days of earth’s creation.
