In September 1902, “Buffalo Bill” Cody and his Wild West Show came to San Francisco.  During their stay in San Francisco, Cody and his Native American performers from the show, lined up for a photograph that was taken on Ocean Beach near the Cliff House. Buffalo Bill, mounted on his horse Duke, appears front-center in the photograph, with Indian members of the troupe lined up on either side of him.

In September 2008, installation artist Thom Ross re-created the historic photograph with life-size figures. The figures were cut out of 3/4 inch commercial plywood. They were sanded, primed, painted, and varnished then decorated with jewelry, fringe, feathers, bells and beads. The installation remained on display at Ocean Beach from the September 5th to the15th. Following are some of the many photos that I took of the Thom Ross re-creation.
