For those of us who live in the Bay Area, I highly recommend a visit to the Marin Headlands during a winter storm. The power of nature in one of the world's most beautifully exquisite settings is an inspiration for the spirit, and food for one's soul. Also, the best time to see Muir Woods is in the rainy season. The creeks are full, the lush moss and delicate ferns are glowing with unearthly greens. The intoxicating aromas that radiate from life on the forest floor are unbelievably concentrated. And...there are no tourists. In a rainstorm, Cathedral Grove is empty except for the birds and the dainty forest deer. It’s like Mozart at his best.
