Yesterday at 4pm, the majestic Queen Mary 2 passed under the Golden Gate Bridge and made her way into San Francisco Bay. Despite it being Super Bowl Sunday, San Franciscans turned out in droves to witness her arrival. On the bay, there were hundreds of sailboats and watercraft of every type. In the air, a swarm of helicopters and small planes buzzed to and fro. And on land, tens of thousands of people watched from every vantage point along the way as Queen Mary 2 made her way into San Francisco. She's on an 81 day around the world cruise.
The largest ship to ever sail into San Francisco Bay, the Queen Mary 2,
quietly departed at 9:30 this evening. In the cold air, a small crowd of
die-hards stood along the rail of the Hyde Street Pier and watched her slip
out towards the Gate. The peaceful silence of the chilled night air was
pierced by the sounds of the surf, voices in the dark, and the creaking of
the old Balcutha tied down nearby. For more photos of the QM2, visit my web
