November's end at Land's End

End of November . . . first of December.
Lincoln Park at 34th and Clement Streets is a 270-acre open space along the headlands of Point Lobos and Land's End. The surf crashing against the 200-foot cliffs adds to the drama of the breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay. The California Palace of the Legion of Honor and the Lincoln Park Municipal Golf Course are located in the park. Lincoln Park was originally used as a cemetery, mostly for paupers and Chinese immigrants, beginning in 1870. The practice was continued until 1901 when San Francisco prohibited burials within city limits. The city purchased the cemetery for Lincoln Park in 1909, and many of the graves were left undisturbed. Thousands of San Francisco’s former citizens still lie under the park, a few of which were accidently unearthed during the renovation of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor during the 1990’s. Near the first tee of the golf course is an arch from a Chinese tomb. From SAN FRANCISCO SECRETS by John Snyder Chronicle Books 1999

The last photo in this batch is a night-time photo of my tower in the front yard which I’ve recently decorated for the holidays.
