Impressions from the 2016 Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Victorian Holiday Party at the Cow Palace
On Sunday, Dave and I attended the 2016 Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Victorian Holiday Party at the Cow Palace. The Dickens Fair is an annual event in the Bay Area that runs each weekend from Thanksgiving until Christmas. The Dickens Fair is as if you've just walked on to the set of "A Christmas Carol" or "Oliver Twist." One is surrounded with the sites, sounds and smells of a fictitious London on Christmas Eve, 1860.There are shops, pubs, theaters, dance halls, traditional English eateries (bangers and mash, meat pies, fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding, etc.) On the streets, one is likely to encounter characters from the Dickens' novels, such as Scrooge and all his ghosts, Oliver Twist, Nancy, Fagan, etc. There are over 300 people working at the Fair, all in character, dressed in period clothing. Many visitors to the Dickens Fair also come in 19th century attire. Here are some of my impressions from the Dickens Fair. A special thanks to Patrick for providing me with the tickets.
Here's a map of the Dickens Fair London at the Cow Palace.
