Development on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, and a walk to the tower on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge

Over the next fifteen years, Treasure Island will undergo a complete transformation. The development and construction of the island was recently approved, and the work has now begun in earnest. Last Sunday, Dave and I drove over to the island to see what changes had taken place since our last visit. What we saw was a complete and dramatic change in the overall landscape from what we had known before. Many of the old building were gone or were being demolished, and mountains of rubble stood five and six stories tall. We drove through the deserted streets of Treasure Island and ended up on the eastern side of Yerba Buena Island. To our surprise, the Bike Pathway on the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge (which until recently was still under construction) was open. I parked, and we spent two hours walking on the new bridge up to and beyond the tower. Here are photos from last Sunday's visit.
