Polaroid photos from 40 years ago
While cleaning in the attic recently, I came across a cigar box filled with old Polaroid photos of me. The photos were taken over a 7 year period beginning in 1976 and ending in 1983. At the time they were taken, I was working as a waiter in the Franciscan Restaurant at Fisherman's Wharf. A number of these photos were taken by customers who I served at the restaurant after I noticed they had a Polaroid camera with them. (This was all before the digital age of course) I would ask them to take my picture so that I could send it to my parents in Kansas City or grandparents in Columbus Nebraska. Other photos shown here were taken by Mark Anstendig with a Polaroid camera borrowed from our artist friend Tom Phillips. I moved to San Francisco in August 1974 when I was 21 years old. Two years later, I was working in various coffee shops and restaurants, learning the trade in what would eventually become a life-long career. I was in my 20's during the time these photos were made.
