Snapshots of the Chronicles of San Francisco by J R
During a recent visit to San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art, I had the pleasure of viewing and experiencing a panoramic mural by the internationally recognized artist J R. His artwork, The Chronicles of San Francisco, is a digital mural of moving figures that slowly scrolls, almost imperceptibly, across a seamless bank of screens, bringing together the faces and untold stories of San Franciscans who we encounter every day.
For two months in early 2018, J R set up a mobile studio in twenty-two locations around San Francisco. He filmed and interviewed nearly twelve hundred people from across the city’s multifaceted communities, and this large video-panoramic mural is the culmination of that project.
For more information, and a short video interview with J R about the creation of this digital mural, go to: SFMOMA
I recommend and encourage everyone to visit and see this installation piece.
The public can access The Chronicles of San Francisco for free in the Roberts Family Gallery on Floor 1, at the Howard Street entrance to the museum.
