The San Francisco Main Library maintains a terrific web site with over 450,000 still shots of San Francisco throughout the city’s history.

One can also visit the sixth floor of the Main Library which is home to the Daniel E. Koshland Photo Archives where all the hard-copy images reside.
(Today’s Main Library stands on the site of the old City Hall Building that was destroyed in 1906.)
