RON HENGGELER |
During a recent visit to the University of California in Berkeley, I chanced upon a collection of old cartoons at Moe's Bookstore on Telegraph Avenue. These charming depictions of a bygone era in San Francisco were created by the well-known Bay Area illustrator Albert Tolf. They appeared in THE SAN FRANCISCO NEWS in 1956, 1957, and 1958. The pages of this old volume that I found are dog-eared and yellowed with age. I've spent several days scanning each one, then repairing, restoring, and making them look new again. Here are all of the cartoons from the book by this talented artist Mr. Tolf. These marvelous graphics are a glimpse into a lost world of intimate details that are now nearly forgotten to us.
